Our Commitment
The first week your adopted pet goes home with you is a trial week. If, during this time, your new pet does not seem like the right fit for you or your family, you may return them to Peppermint Pig Animal Rescue and receive a full refund for your adoption fee.
When we rescue an animal, we make a lifetime commitment to each of them. If for any reason during the lifetime of your pet you can no longer keep or take care of them, they must be returned to Peppermint Pig for rehoming.
Our Adoptable Pets
We rescue the majority of our adoptable pets from high kill shelters and by working with other rescues to transport from rural areas with high euthanasia rates. All of our rescues reside in foster homes until they are adopted and meets are by appointment made only after we receive a completed application.
We post all of our adoptable pets to our website, social media, and Petfinder as soon as they come available for adoption. Updates are made regularly so you never have to wonder who is or isn’t available.
Adoption Details
- We will only contact you if you are approved for a meet or we have further questions after we have received your completed application.
- Application submitted late in the week may not be processed until the following week.
- You must meet all requirements laid out in detail below to be considered for adoptions.
PLEASE NOTE: To be considered for adoption, the applicant’s current and previous dogs must have a current and consistent history of receiving core vaccinations (rabies and distemper/parvo). They must also have a current and consistent history of receiving yearly heartworm testing and heartworm prevention, and they must be/have been spayed/neutered. All current or previous cats in the home must have been spayed/neutered and have a current and consistent history of receiving all core vaccinations (rabies and FVRCP). We will not place one of our rescue animals into a home that does not meet these vetting standards. Applicants must also have a proper physical fence (in good condition), in place at their home residence. If a pool is present at the home, we prefer there is also an additional fence containing it, to prevent accidental drowning from occurring.
Our Adoption Process
- Adoptions are scheduled on Saturdays from 1 pm to 4 pm.
- All applications are reviewed in the order they are received and qualify based on the needs of each individual pet. Please review each pet’s bio and note the specific requirements to adopt.
- We select our adopters based on the best overall fit for each animal we rescue. This information is gathered from the questions on the application.
- Our application has a “save and continue later” feature if you need to gather more information throughout the process of completion. All the information gathered on the application helps us to make the best choice for the individual pet so be sure to complete the full application before submitting.
Because we receive so many applications and communications on a daily bases, our volunteers may not have the time to send notifications to all that apply. Our rescue volunteers cannot be reached through the phone at the thrift store and the best method of contact is the contact us form on our website.
Please only complete an application if you are ready to adopt. We do not hold animals if there is a more qualified applicant for the animal’s needs. Final approval for adoptions is made at the scheduled meet. Be sure to check your email regularly for further communications from us related to your application if you are selected.
Please be sure to complete the application as honestly and thoroughly as possible. In the application, there is a portion that asks about your current vet. Completing this accurately is important to ensuring quick processing of your application and if not completed accurately, we will move on to the next applicant. If you have had multiple vets for your current pets, please list all applicable vets so we can get a clear picture of your vetting history.
We hold applications for 3 months. If you become interested in another pet during the process, please complete a contact form and let us know. We are happy to screen your application for other pets. If it has been over 3 months, or there are significant changes to your household, please submit a new application.

Our adoption radius is within a two-hour radius of Peppermint Pig for adult animals and a one hour radius for most puppies/kittens due to the need for continued vetting.
Adoption Fee
- Adult Dogs (Over 1 Year): Starting at $165
- Puppy (under 1 year): Starting at $195
- Cat/Kitten: Starting at $50
Adoption fees may vary. Please check out the pet’s bio that interests you for a specific adoption fee.
Puppy Adoption
All puppies will be adopted with current, age-appropriate vaccines. Peppermint Pig provides every puppy’s 8, 12, and 16 week puppy series. When a puppy is not old enough to have received all vaccines at the time of adoption, the adopter will be required to bring them back to Peppermint Pig to finish the series. There are no exceptions to this rule.
The spay/neuter is covered with the adoption fee and will be done within 6 weeks of receiving their 16 week vaccinations from PPAR. The spay/neuter must be done at one of our approved vets.
At the time of adoption, you will be presented with another puppy adoption contract specifying the need to vaccinate and spay/neuter your new pet. The microchip will not be transferred until this contract is completed.
Children
Before applying to adopt a rescue dog or cat, consider the age and maturity level of your children to ensure that your home will be a good environment for your new family member. Ensuring that your children understand the nuances of adopting a rescue is paramount to the success of integrating an animal into your family.
Renting
Due to the rental restrictions related to breed, size, and number of animals in many rentals, we may choose to not adopt certain breeds or sizes of dogs to people who rent their home. This may be determined regardless of the applicant’s current rental agreement due to their somewhat changing nature year to year or place to place. We will not adopt an animal to a renter that is over or at the limit of weight or breed restrictions permitted in their rental agreement.
Vet Care
All of our rescues receive their initial vetting at intake. Once you adopt your pet, you are required to continue proper care and routine wellness. Other treatments and care will be provided on a case-by-case basis. We strive to ensure that all of our pets are 100% healthy before adoption.
All of our dogs and cats will be spayed/neutered. No exceptions.
