Peppermint Pig FAQ

Peppermint Pig Thrift & Gift operates solely to support Peppermint Pig Animal Rescue.

We are a 100% non-profit 501(c)(3)

100% of the proceeds from our volunteer-operated thrift store go directly to the rescue and care of animals in need in our communities. Our Thrift store operates to bridge the gap between our low adoption fees and the cost of vetting and care we provide the animals we rescue. We also receive monetary donations through private and corporate fundraising, corporate employee matching programs, direct donations, memorial donations and through supporters that have kindly placed our non-profit in their wills.

No. We are a completely 100% volunteer-based organization. From thrift store item intake to administering much needed animal vaccinations, every single bit of our work is done by dedicated and passionate volunteers.

Anything that is needed for our rescues. This means food, medicine, vaccinations, treats and toys, grooming, boarding fees, piddle pads and puppy and kitten rearing pens, and specialized diet food. One of our largest expenses is our monthly vet bills for much-needed spay and neuter surgeries.

Upon completion of the entire application, you will receive a notification stating that your form has been submitted.

Our application is lengthly. Please take advantage of the save and continue feature if you need to gather more information needed. If you have submitted an application to us, please be sure to check your email regularly, as well as your spam folder for further communications from us.

Adopt a Cat FAQ

To get started, please read over our requirements for adoption. There are many rescues in our local area, each with different rules when it comes to adopting a furry friend. After you have determined you fit our requirements, then please submit an Adoption Application!

We post all of our adoptable rescue pets to our website, our Facebook and to Petfinder as soon as they become available for adoption, and we update their status regularly, so you never have to wonder who is, or isn’t available.

All of our cat and kittens reside in foster homes until they are adopted. Meets with our adoptable kittens are only scheduled after we have received and approved your completed application.

To be considered for cat adoption, all applicants must first meet our basic 2 hour radius requirements, as well as our Vet care requirements of having a current and consistent records for ALL pets (past and current) being kept up to date on core vaccinations, yearly heartworm testing and heartworm prevention. We also require that all pets in the home must be/have been spayed/neutered.

We will only contact you if you are selected for a meet or if we have further questions after we have received your completed application. Please keep in mind this policy is in place to take our volunteer’s time into consideration. As a 100% volunteer run organization, we rely on these dedicated individuals that handle our outreach in their spare time. We simply cannot respond to each and every email that comes in.

All applications are reviewed in the order they are received and qualifications are based on the best fit for each individual animal. The majority of denied applicants do not meet our specific radius, rental and/or vetting requirements. We select adopters based on best overall fit for each animal we rescue; each applicant’s experience, energy level and other details gathered from the application. All of this is considered to select homes that match each cat’s specific needs and personalities.

How long will you hold my application?

We will hold applications for 3 months. If you have applied to adopt a pet, and they were adopted by another applicant or you were not selected for that pet, you may submit a Contact Us form if you see another pet you are interested in adopting. We are happy to screen your existing application for another pet. If it has been over 3 months since you applied, or there have been significant changes in your household (number of people, number of pets, new address, etc.) or any changes in your vet history, please submit a new application. If your original application was for an adult cat, and you have changed interest to a kitten, you will need to submit a new application and answer the questions accordingly.

Foster FAQ

Saying YES! We want this to be a good match and a good experience for you and the pet you foster. Saying yes only obligates you to TRYING the experience.

To get started, please submit a Foster Application today!

With the pet overpopulation crisis on the rise, kill shelters are completely overwhelmed with companion animals. Peppermint Pig Animal Rescue is committed to saving as many pets as possible from bad experiences and possible untimely death in these shelters. We rely on our foster homes to help us in our rescue mission. The more foster homes we have available, the more lives we can save!

Basic training, such as leash skills, crate training, and reinforcing housebreaking are certainly welcomed and will help the pet in the transition to their forever home, but stability and love are the most important things for a foster to provide.

A lot of our foster parents have adopted one, or more, of their fosters. It’s never easy to let them go, but we continue to do so knowing that they are going to good forever homes, and knowing that because of us, they are alive. Also, every time you let one go to their forever home, another can take their place in your home, so by fostering, you are really saving two lives.

Please keep in mind that we do not have a foster to adopt program and if you are interested in adopting, please visit our Adoption Process page.

Our screening process typically takes several days, so you could have the foster in your home for a few days leading up to our adoption event, but typically up to a month or so. However, we will never expect a foster to keep a dog longer than they are comfortable with.

We have fosters in all living environments, as long as fostering is welcomed by landlords and all occupants of the home. We try to match the needs of the dog to the right environment. Since most of our fosters will adopt (foster fail) one of their fosters, we do require that they meet the same vet and fence requirements as our adopters. We ask for this information in our foster application.

We post our adoptable animals to our website, Facebook page, and to Petfinder as soon as possible after we rescue them. This helps ensure that potential adopters can view them and apply to adopt them right away. Our screening process typically takes several days, so you could have the foster in your home for a few days leading up to our adoption event, but up to a month or so. However, we will never expect a foster to keep a dog longer than they are comfortable with.

If, for any reason, the foster animal is not working out in your home, we do not expect you to keep them there. We will find another foster home to place them in, or we will place them in a boarding facility until another foster home opens up for them. You are always welcome to try a different animal, or sometimes we can have you trade with another foster.

Peppermint Pig Animal Rescue provides ALL of the pet’s needs; all vet care, food, & crates when needed. Each pet will come to you with current, age-appropriate vaccines, deflea-ed/dewormed, current flea and heartworm prevention. Some animals may need to be taken to the vet for their spay or neuter, heartworm test, and/or rabies vaccination, but these vetting expenses are all covered by PPAR. Any ongoing treatments such as dewormer for young puppies or kittens going through the deworming process, medications for any ailments, will be provided to you by PPAR or PPAR’s vet.
